THE BEGINNING
In 1993, Mrs. Surjit Wasu and Cdr. Ajit Singh Wasu thought of setting up a dispensary. To start with, he set apart a piece of land measuring 250 sq. yds. with a small building, out of his own house , where a dispensary with one doctor was set up. Seeing the noble cause, other friends came forward to help and a double storey building covering the whole plot was constructed. The dispensary was expanded on the ground floor and a nursery school with one teacher was set up on the first floor. Later on, a plot of land measuring 2500 sq.yds. was purchased by Sh. S.K. Gulhati and Mr. Mandeep Wasu and the School was shifted there and the dispensary was further expanded on the first floor also.
In 1996, the Surjit Wasu Memorial Charitable Trust with the following members was formed and was duly registered;
Commander Ajit Wasu
Ajit Wasu is a name synonymous with the development of Sainik Farms. He joined the Navy in 1958 and was in the support team that was part of the killer squadron during the 1971 war. In 1978 he moved to the Merchant Navy and travelled around the world.
In 1982 he bought land and built a home in Sainik Farms.There were only 50 houses and the residents got together to build roads etc. and the community feeling became strong. A Rotary Club was established in 1989 with Ajit Wasu as the Charter President.
The Sainik Farms Welfare Association was formed in1983-84 and and Ajit wasu has been an active member and its President for a number of Terms. His contribution to providing facilities to residents is unmatched. Commander Wasu donated part of his land and built a dispensary for the residents in 1993. It now has the latest equipment and a number of specialists on the doctors panel. Then he built a school for the less privileged children. The school is named after his wife, Surjit Wasu.
Ajit Wasu continue to be President of the Country Club in Sainik Farms multiple time. His future plans include improvement of the colony with better roads, water supply, sewers and electricity.

Surjit Wasu was born in 1942 and educated in Lady Irwin School and College. She taught Food and Nutrition courses and then she got married and then travelled the world with her husband. After retirement of her husband, the family settled in Delhi. She started a Garment Export Company in collaboration with her brother in Germany & She was also a Director of the Company. She suddenly passed away in 1993. The couple have a son and a daughter.

It was decided to have the registered office of the Trust at 174, Western Avenue, Sainik Farms, New Delhi. The Trust is registered with the Income Tax Department and donations to the Trust are exempt from Income tax.

AIMS AND OBJECTS
The aim of the Trust :–

- To spread education, to establish, maintain, run, develop schools, skill development centres.
- To run a charitable dispensary.
- To work on livelihood programs and hand holding to skilled students & Setup skill development Centre.
- To establish libraries.
- To award scholarships for study and research.
